I'm Back from Vietnam!

I'm back from my trip to Vietnam and it was every bit as amazing as I thought it would be! Read about my experience on my tumblr, I posted photos, short video clips and a little bit of reflection for 20 of the travel days! Enjoy!

Count Down to Vietnam! Departing May 7, 2014

This fall I was awarded a fellowship to enhance global awareness through Michigan State University College of Education. I am beyond excited for this opportunity! May, 2014 I will depart for Vietnam with a small cohort of other PhD students from MSU.

Did you know that ...

Vietnam has a smaller geographical area in comparison with California or Germany, but larger than compared to Italy or Arizona.

The length of Vietnam from north to south is about 1650 km. It is roughly the distance from London to Rome in Europe, New York to Miami in the United States, or Melbourne to Brisbane in Australia.

China is Vietnam’s largest neighboring country. It is 32 times bigger than Vietnam in geographical area and 15 times bigger in population.

Laos is Vietnam’s smallest neighbor, about 30% smaller in territory, but nearly 15 times smaller in population.

Hanoi is located at the same geographical latitude, 21 degrees North, with Honolulu in Hawaii and Cancun in Mexico.

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is located at 10 degrees North parallel, which corresponds with the latitude of Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela.

Passport information submitted to Michigan State, plane tickets in the works, anticipation is high! Now, I need to figure out immunization and visa requirements. February is flying by! It's going to be May before I know it!

February 10, 2014 Loving Google Images!

In preparation for this trip I plan to study up on the culture and systems of education. But first, I think I will just enjoy hunting the beautiful images on the web. I'm sure I cannot even start to imagine how spectacular this country is. I can't wait!
